Sometime a story just needs to be a little fun while describing something serious.
My short story with the working title Clownie is like that. It is about a young woman working at the circus as a clown. One day she sees and falls in love with a male patron of the circus. Together, they agree to run away from the circus to get married, establish a home, and start a family together. Obviously, a reversal of the kid running away to join the circus with a young woman escaping the circus to create a traditional family contrary to all the contemporary messaging about non-traditional lives and families.
It is cultural commentary on what passes for dating in current year but is not dating…instead situationships and hook-ups with neither meaning nor commitment nor happiness.
Clownie wears so much makeup that it hides who she truly is. Her clothes are outrageous and gawdy. Plus, her impractical shoes are simply too big. Does that sound like anyone you might recognize on the weekend at the club or crawling the pubs?
Copilot created an image for me of how Clownie might look.
