Mya Assassin

Mya Assassin

Below is the raw beginning of dialogue between a man and Death for my short story with a working name “Mya Assassin.”

The raw draft lacks narrative, description, & editing. During drafting, I focus on dialogue, some action, and character interaction.

I was inspired by a couple YouTube videos by Tale Foundry & Red of Overly Sarcastic Productions about Death as a character in fiction. For my draft story, of course Death is a woman. 🙂

Mya is an assassin that seeks out nothing but to kill Kenji. Many assassins have tried to fight him but failed, but Mya is different. Kenji was on a balcony on the top floor of an apartment looking out at the view, when he heard someone behind him. It is Mya pointing her katana at him.

Mya: “What do we have here? Looks like the odds are with me on this day. Nevertheless, you shall not concern yourself with who I am. Call me la muerte.” Mya slowly walks towards him fearlessly.

Kenji: “Welcome Death. You have long been my mistress.”

Mya: “It certainly looks like it’s your time then, Kenji. I am not going to make this quick for you either.” Mya quickly dashed towards him, swinging her katana down on him.

Kenji: He stepped causally aside to trip her. As she lay sprawled on the ground, he picked up her katana. “It is a beautiful blade. Why do you choose to kill me?”

Mya: She groaned while sprawled on the ground. “You have no right speaking to me like that. I am la muerte, an immortal assassin. I do what I do, and I shall not bother explaining what I do to you. Now give me my weapon back.”

Kenji: “No, my dearest love. I will not return your weapon as I have too much respect for you.”

Mya: She groaned again. “I am not your love, and I do not give two shits about you and your respect. Just give me back my weapon or suffer the consequences.”

Kenji: “Yet Death, I do love you.”

Mya: She rolled her eyes. “It’s funny how you seem to not fear me at all.”

Kenji: “Death, you and I have danced all my life. I do not fear you because you are my beloved. Would you drink tea with me?”
