Musing of a Burakumin

I had a random thought for the undrafted Kedakai justice short story…she asks Haruki why the Burakumin are considered unclean and lowly. His reply should be something to the effect of, “They say that it is because we work in death and blood. Butchering animals for meat, creating leather, preparing the dead for their wake and cremation, and serving as our lord’s executioners. Yet the samurai deal in death but are revered. No, I think it is because we Burakumin face the truth about not only death but also the truth about life. Life is messy in a way that our better’s traditions and beliefs do not accept, so they demean us instead of facing life’s truth.”

“Messy” refers to context, so add something like, “The memorization and repetition of aphorisms is not wisdom. Without touching a thought to reality, the truth of its metal is unknown.”
