In editing, I am doing multiple passes through the story. Instead of each pass attempting to everything, I build up the story as I go.
The story draft assembles a skeleton by completing the dialogue and major actions.
The first pass edit is like adding organs and muscles to that skeleton as I add narration, elaborate the theme.
The second pass edit adds the skin and breathes life into the story by adding immersive detail and world building.
The final edit will cloth the story, so it is presentable in public.
