I thought of some backstory for Chief (aka Tak) in my draft novel Boudica and The Butcher beyond being Chappo’s nephew.

Chief had been regular army before the war but was discharged with a partial disability; a parachuting accident during jump school caused an injury (knee or back). After he had been one of Sheridan’s students at James Wilson College.

The civil war gave him an opportunity to reenlist in the Guard as his experience offset his limitations. While Chief is never going to long march in full pack again, he is the best scout Sheridan has.

Currently, I am a drafter and plodding editor of my own fiction stories. Looking towards the future when edited stories turn into published ones.
