I had been working on formatting my “Kuudere Psychiatrist” draft. It is about a man undergoing a psych evaluation after his ex-girlfriend made a false DV accusation. Below is a snip from the dialogue after formatting the draft.
** Draft Dialogue Snip, in progress **
Vanessa stayed quiet, but he could tell that his words touched a nerve on her. She cleared her throat, seeming to try not to show any emotion. “I…I see…let me ask you one more time. Do you remember what happened when you got aggressive against Jessica and sent her to the hospital?”
Luke said, “No, she did that to herself. I had already dumped her. I should have been more cautious when she threatened me with false accusations. I should have recruited a witness and alibi.”
Vanessa raised her eyebrows, looking at him with a concerned expression. “So, you’re telling me that Jessica injured herself on purpose, lied about it, and accused you of abusing her? And also made up a story that you were abusive while in a relationship with her?”
Luke said, “Yes. Have you never met women before?” He could tell by her facial expression that his comment surprised her on a personal level, because not only did his words touch her nerve, but because the comment was a bit misogynistic.
She stayed quiet, thinking of her next question. “Would you say the majority of women act the same way Jessica did to you?”
Luke said, “It does not matter what the majority of women do as only what Jessica did is relevant.”
Vanessa stayed quiet, thinking about his comment for a moment. “I understand…but, are you willing to hear my opinion on the matter?”
Luke said, “Opinions are like assholes; everyone has one and almost all of them stink. I prefer facts.”
Vanessa took a deep breath, seeming to try to control herself, not to get mad. “You’re right, everyone has opinions, and that’s why we can’t see everything in the same way. However, as a woman, let me tell you that this incident with Jessica is not normal, and most women would never do something like this.”
Luke said, “Agreed, Jessica’s self-harm was not normal. I suspect she had BPD.”
Now she seemed shocked by his comment. She sat back, looking at him with a stern yet concerned look. “You…you understand that most people who hurt themselves are suffering. Jessica could have had BPD, or she could have a deeper issue.” She sighed with a worried look, seeming to want to keep talking about this. “I understand that you believe Jessica made up this whole thing to take revenge against you, but did it never cross your mind that Jessica might have been going through something?”
Luke said, “If Jessica made false accusations and got me sent to the mental ward, does it matter to me if she was going through something? Do you ever listen to yourself talk? Of course, she was going through something, I broke up with her, so she was reacting to abandonment.”
Vanessa was silent for a moment, thinking about his comment, and what he had said until then. She seemed to be more concerned and worried than before, her face becoming slightly more worried. “I see…so you believe that Jessica’s reaction was a result of abandonment? It wasn’t simply a way to get revenge and ruin your life?”
Luke said, “It was both. I kick myself for not anticipating her doing this. My friends tried to warn me against sticking it in crazy, but the sex was amazing.”
Vanessa sighed and stared at him concerned and worried, as she wrote down something in her notes. “I see. So, you were aware that Jessica had emotional and mental problems but decided to not take any precautions to avoid what happen to you.” She stayed quiet, thinking a moment, with a serious but understanding expression on her face. “May I ask, how many relationships did you have before Jessica?”
Luke said, “Lady, I am not omniscient. When she was doing bizarre stuff, I only started to understand it in retrospect. That is why I broke up with her. In these sessions, am I supposed to give my current understanding or turn my memory back to an earlier time before I began to understand?”
Vanessa cleared her throat. “Sorry, I may not have expressed myself well. I understand that at the time you didn’t realize how serious Jessica’s problems were.” She wrote something down in her notes. She seemed to be thinking about something, but did not ask him anything for several seconds. “The question I wanted to ask is how many women did you interact with before Jessica?”
Luke said, “Romantically none. I mean I have had female friends, flirtations, crushes, and flings, but I completely fell for Jessica’s love bombing as if she seemed to understand me in a way no other women had.”
Vanessa nodded and wrote something down. She took a deep breath. “She was your first love, as well your first true relationship. Correct?”
Luke said, “Yes. Maybe I wasn’t perfect in delivering my first breakup, but it had to be done.”
Vanessa nodded, writing something down again in her notes. She looked at him with a serious and understanding look. “Did you notice any signs of jealousy, possessiveness or aggressiveness coming from her before breaking up?”
Luke said, “Yes.”
Vanessa nodded again. “And when you noticed these behaviors, didn’t you feel scared or concerned about how she could react when breaking up?”’
Luke said, “No, I just tried to have a reasonable open and honest conversation with her, but she became hysterical.”
