Editing Surprises

Last night, I was formatting a draft story that I didn’t remember writing, so I didn’t know what was going to happen next, which left me curious to see where it would go when I really needed to go to sleep.

Often, I will start working on fixing up a draft and groan…”This one might go on to the never to publish pile as a bizarre over the top experiment.” However, about halfway through the draft, I will start to think it is starting to do something cool. By the end, I am convinced that it said something unusual about something important that might be worth the risk of vulnerability after editing.

Last night, I forced myself to stop about 40% through the draft I was fixing up. I didn’t know what was going to happen, but I did know that was the point the story was changing from something naturalistic with a spice of humor to being transformed by volition so I should be fully awake for the ride.

I’m Jaycee

Currently, I am a drafter and plodding editor of my own fiction stories. Looking towards the future when edited stories turn into published ones.

Here I am starting to bare my soul to give you a preview of what I have been working on.

See “Harvest of Blood” in this site’s menu bar for a preview of a draft chapter from Boudica and The Butcher, a novel set in a future Second American Civil War.
