Fixing Barbora

As I try to work through my inventory of raw drafts, I am started next with my largest partially formatted file to complete its formatting. The working title is “Fixing Barbora” weighing in at 100k+ words and 199 raw pages, so it is going to be around 16 chapters.

Genre-wise it is in my Dating group, which is only about 6% of my story inventory but they are twice as long on average. I am a bit uncertain about the market for this type of story because reportedly the kids today don’t date, so either it is unrelatable, or it is an unreal escapism story.

This fundamentally turned into a psychological story. I think this was my first story in which the male lead engaged in emotional protection of the female lead by helping her heal from past trauma. Her issue was about love; she didn’t know how to accept love, give love, nor love herself. They worked through the issues together; him leading and helping while she did the work to reform herself.

I don’t know how much rewriting I will need to do during editing as this was the first time that I drafted early versions of ideas that I refined by playing with them in later stories. It may be better to leave those ideas a bit rough for authenticity.

So far, this story is good, way more fun. The male lead is very different in temperament from my other male characters; more verbal, less serious, and building rapport through humor.

Here I am starting to bare my soul to give you a preview of what I have been working on.

See “Harvest of Blood” in this site’s menu bar for a preview of a draft chapter from Boudica and The Butcher, a novel set in a future Second American Civil War.
