Formatting “Lotta,” which is a draft Chad blind date story. It is 38 pages so I should probably break it up into 2 parts. This story is different from the typical Chad story in that his blind date had a stalker, who Chad took out.
I noted that I committed some terrible story telling sins. First I showed the reader a key found in the unconscious stalker’s pocket, but I never explained the key later in the story. Second, I introduced a mystery regarding the stalker’s motivation without ever resolving it. Meanwhile, to take the stalker off the board, I had Chad call his lawyer Silas to have Silas put his investigator Kevin on the stalker’s tail after the stalker was bailed out of jail. However, I didn’t do anything more with Silas and Kevin as it wasn’t necessary to this Chad blind date story.
What does this mean? New story idea! Silas and Kevin solve the mystery of the key and the stalker’s motivation. Combined with this Chad story which was destined for the Chad anthology (More Misadventures of Chad Seeking a Wife), this new story idea could become a mystery novella. A key point in the subsequent story is that both Lotta and the stalker lied to Chad about the encounter between Lotta and her stalker.
This is the advantage of trying to create a shared universe for my stories; I can combine characters from different stories for potential cross promotion within a story. Other examples:
* Tak in _Boudica and The Butcher_ is the nephew of Chappo from _Geronimo’s Spirits_,
* Shohei in the first Hiro’s Hauntings story is the descendant of Kedakai and Lord Akamatsu in _Nature’s Foundling_,
* Kevin the investigator from my “Silas the Lawyer” story becomes the boyfriend of Purple the painter from _The Misadventures of Chad Seeking a Wife_, and
* Esmeralda who was one of Chad’s blind dates also appears in _Geronimo’s Spirits_, in which the backstory of her tear drop tattoo is dramatized.
Dang my rambling encouraged a new story idea! I loved Lilith as a character but she only appeared in one story as a Chad blind date. She is fun because she roleplays as a demon IRL and she is a public school teacher. Her makeup features a blood red teardrop. I should write a prequel story with her in full demon mode in a classroom setting; it would be from the perspective of the students with a “My Teacher is a Demon” vibe. No serious message (okay maybe there will be one later but I don’t know yet) as it will be just a fun little kids adventure story.
