This quote has been influential in my characterization of Gen. Gideon Sheridan in my draft novel Boudica and The Butcher.

One of my undrafted story ideas adapts “Shaka Zulu” to reimagine that he is a teenager growing up in a contemporary Chicago ghetto. His single mother is mentally ill. His absent father is a college professor and secret mobster influencing city politics. His unknown half-brother is the gang leader terrorizing the high school.
