Sometimes I forget what I have and have not written. I was looking for a draft of my “Short King” story about an incel who broke into the home of a woman who rejected him. There he destroyed her expensive inventory of cosmetics (aka fakeup) and cut the heels off all of her many, many shoes. In the end, his defense attorney negotiated a payment for damages to drop the B&E charges. She was happy to go shopping as she did not really value the material possessions she had accumulated. He learned that he had made the mistake of valuing a vacuous woman more than she deserved.
Turns out this short king owned his own plumbing company and had gotten rich cleaning up everyone else’s sh*t. However, he was also only average height so was looked down on as undatable by single women generally as she “ain’t gonna settle.” While she could have achieved a materially comfortable life with him and he was a good guy, she was obsessed with appearances.
Reeee…a story that has a negative female character? The point of the story isn’t that some women are bad, but that men should judge a woman rigorously and shouldn’t SIMP so critical of some men.
As I was searching, I found that I hadn’t written the draft yet as it was only on the story idea pile. Maybe it should be something I knock out one weekend.
Additional points:
1) his lawyer is Sy from another short story.
2) Short King wasn’t stalking her. He was on a job in her apartment complex. He recognized her as a woman who brutally rejected him. She passed him (a plumber) without recognizing him and ignoring him like he was beneath her. He had seen which apartment she had come out of and it was the one on his work order. After fixing the clog she created by doing something irresponsible, he snapped over her condescending attitude.
